Having previously screened two of celebrated Japanese auteur Hirokazu Kore-eda’s previous films at the festival, I Wish (IFF 2012) and Our Little Sister (IFF 2015), we are delighted to bring you the Scottish premiere of After The Storm.

Ryota is a failed writer, a third-rate detective, and a hardened gambler. His wife has left him and although he adores his young son, he is resigned to his position on the sidelines of the boy’s life. But one night, when a typhoon strikes, the family are forced to spend the night together at Ryota’s mother’s home. Could this be a pivotal moment in their lives? A bittersweet and tender Kore-eda style family drama that’s a welcome addition to his complex and fascinating body of work about contemporary families.
